Momentarily snapped out of her battle frenzy by the crashing Erdath, Tolleen calls out to Audi and Gawaine, "Stop! Leave the statues! They are only a distraction! Come with me!".

Taking a final swipe at the attacking golems, she then backs out of the fight, leaving the entangled monstrosities trapped. She moves over to aid the fallen Erdath who, to her surprise, gets up as if unharmed and heads races off towards the undead dragon. Realizing he doesn't need the healing she thought he might after that display, Tolleen looks back at her two companions and gestures for them to follow her up towards the Maiden and the well.
(More to come when I have the chance.)

Harwan is getting frustrated. He will try to draw the attention of the dragon away from Erdath untill help comes. Failing that, he will withdraw from the fight with the dragon when an opportunity arises and see if his magical sword can harm the Ghost.

A thought flies through Harwan's mind: "Destroy the Well, that's what we came here for....but how?"

Still screaming looking first to the Baron and his severed hand then down to this stump... then back to his hand. Suddenly it comes to him the truely dire situation that has befallen him and his comrades. Thinking to sacrifice himself for the good of Blackmoor and the safety of his party, his friends have now rushed blindly to his aid and to all their dooms including his.

Without much time for thought beyond that Dirken can only scream, turn, and run!

YOU FOOLS!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES NOW!!!

Tucking his stump under his other arm Dirken moves faster than he has ever moved in his life, trying to run away from the impending explosion that he knows will do more than seal the fate of the Baron, but also possibly that of his newly close friends.

There is a scuffle with some undead character over in the corner, some are closing with the remains of one of our dear comrades and Hrrd is left alone at the brink of disaster. Finally, he has time to think and is in a place to act.

While he is thinking he will absently grab the ring from the woman on the throne. It may hold some significance to these people and he is sure they would like it returned.

The Well of Souls is here. The Maiden is here. The voices are here.
Should they be allowed to continue? Probably not.
Are the others going to be able to help? Not likely.

Hrrd will attempt to use his Spellcraft to determine any kind of information about what is going on here, but is not too hopeful on that score. This is a well. It is made of stone, but it is most likely magical so he fears his soften earth and stone spell will not work to damage it. No, the Well is already activated. The only way to stop this horror is to stop the one controlling it. The Maiden.

If only he knew something about her or her past. Anything that might distract her from her current approach. Alas, he was not present when she was originally encountered and she was not forthcoming with personal details afterward. She seems intent on bringing the Negative Plane to the Material, but why? Who can say? Maybe she can't do that from another plane of existence.

She seems to be ignoring Hrrd at the moment. That might be because he is covered in this residue from beyond. That could work to his advantage.

He moves behind the throne and casts spider climb. Then he will climb up and over the Maiden. Maybe if he drops on her, the goop that is on him will stick to her and help to drag her back through the ring with him.

While climbing, he tries to keep his mind occupied so that he cannot be controlled as he has seen happen to others. He will try to talk to Mjolnir again.

In what ways can you aid me? We're about to fall and carry an enemy of this world into another realm where she may have even more power. However, the more information I gather, the more I believe that you might have less power there. If you wish to continue to exist in a helpful state, help me now.

(Scratch last post after pm received from Des.)

Erdath climbs back "Thank you for your help Black Flame. Let us end this." He steps back into the room and sees his flaming ball still hovering in the air ready for him to direct it. Harwan is too close to Black Wing to explode it here. He then looks to the Maiden. He sees in the background Hrrd beginning to climb the wall. If he is to be successful he will have to move quickly and will try to distract the Maiden from Hrrd as much as possible. He reaches out with his mind and directs the fireball back at the Maiden trying to get it to explode as far away from Hrrd as possible, but still capturing the Maiden with the bulk of the blast. He calls out to the Maiden "I have burned you once and I will burn you again!" Once that is complete, he will cast his Enlarge Person on himself and charge towards Black Flame and attempt to decapitate her.

(Black Wing and the Maiden should also have taken additional damage from the wall of fire unless the Maiden has moved away from it. The same amount as last time for both since Black Wing had to go through the wall in order to get to me.)

Both Sven and Karl madly charge at Ungulian, but this time the monk is quicker...

With his staff, Karl counters out the baron's sword, and manages to place one single well directed blow between the cracked ribs of the skeleton...

For a the opening and closing of an eyelid only, Karl gets a clean view of Dirken's hand...

BOOM

Inside, Tolleen takes back the commando of the remaining party,
and, leaving the indestructible golems catched between the veins,
Audi and Gawaine follow her to the hall of the Well...

You come across Gothmog and realize the orc is beyong saving already.
One of the golems has slit his throat.

What remains of the throne room is already starting to burn as Tolleen
and her companions enter:

A ceasing wall of fire surrounds a Mithril ring on the ground.
Over it the Maiden, behind it what Audi will define as Toska Russa's shattered throne.
Before it, the undead dragon, of course.

[Magic sword? - Does Harwan too have a magic sword?!]

Seeing the vanity of his efforts against the dragon, Harwan will chose to get out of the beast's range
- not the worst choice, because only a second later, a tower-tall Erdath
smashes through the curtains and plunges on Black Wing -
and hastily scan the area...

A strange thought may bewilder him as he looks at the silverish ring,
the interdimensional gate that the people of the North call the Well of Souls:

One of the few things he knows about the artifact may be that the Wellstone
is supposedly needed to call upon the Well's powers.
The Wellstone, however was never in the possession of the Afridhi to begin with,
and should now lie abandoned, somewhere on the battlefield in the plain of Shale.

How did Toska Russa manage to activate the Well at all?

No, the Well is a silver ring on the ground, though, as Hrrd has noticed while tumbling out of it,
unmovable and somehow magically bound to the place.

RizaktheReallyHorrible wrote:

Or is she? From all you know, the Maiden was just a regular ghost that haunted a tavern house
somewhere in the swamps. The magic powers she actually displayed were not bigger
than of any other undead spirit.
The only thing you know for sure is that she frightens
the hell out of you and that, unlike other ghosts,
she apparently is not bound to the place of her death.
Thinking it again, Hrrd may not be so sure if the Maiden is really the controlling force over the Well.

Reaching out in his mind for Mjolnir while climbing the wall, Hrrd gets an answer...
From his valiant raccoon, on the toe of the undead dragon!

I am doing what I can, commander-in-chief!
I have cut the enemy's little toe and I am working on his second!
The pain should soon become insupportable for the clumsy beast!

Erdath sends the fireball against the Maiden, and, neither does she defend,
nor evade the blast...

There's too much chaos around the elf for him to understand if he has really harmed her,
but a furious cry fills his ears as he advances through the smoke...

IT CAN'T BE!!!
I WAS GRANTED TO BE THE GODDESS OF THIS WORLD!!!
WORSHIP ME, OR BE CRUSHED!!!

djaykix wrote:

Again, Erdath and Black Wing clash, but this time, the Elf isn't that lucky...

As he breaks through what of the curtain wall around the throne room,
the dragon jumps on him like a wild dog and pins him on the ground in his giant form...

Erdath is not versed enough as a grappler, and the dragon's strength extends his own by far...

Both of his arms trapped under the monster's claws, Erdath can not defend himself as the dragon
bleaks his yellow teeth, and, growling and barking, lowers his head to reach for
Erdath's throat...

Then, a massive explosion shakes the tower...

He feels the explosion more than he hears it, and, as the flames lamb up his legs,
and gives one last prayer ---

Then, something catches him around his good arm and the neck,
and pulls him brutally from his feet, and upwards, along the wall...

A moment later, Dirken finds himself hanging upside down,
on the edge of the balcony where he last saw Bobby.

The little bearman's face is hot red, as he holds a strong-silver-shining rope with both hands.
Next to him, extending his arms to pull Dirken over the ballustrade,
the clothes burned and the face dirty from gunpowder, Zuki.

Down

[Sven, due to his armor: 25 DAM. Karl, wearing almost no protection: 41 DAM.]

Small stones and splinters of bones rain down on you,
as you find yourselves lying on the ground bleeding.

Your ears are dull, and a powdery substance covers your faces and eyes.
You try to stand up, but your legs are too weak.
Breathing hurts like hell.

Karl's skin and flesh have been mostly burned away.
However, the monk is not bleeding. Black substance fills his wounds and scars them within seconds to black skin.

The snakes on his arm dance under his skin.

Several meters away from you lies Ungulian's skeleton, motionless,
the skull rolled a few feet away.

The blue crystal that replaced the baron's heart has broken into thousands small shards of glass.

Sven, having failed to stand already, will check to see if he still holds Maroon and if so, caste a cure moderate wound spell on himself, before trying anything else. If he dosn't have Maroon, he will attempt to spot the sword and crawl to it, before he can caste the spell. Then he will try to rise again.

He will then look around, if there is anything important left (Ungulian's sword?) he will attempt to retrieve it. Upon seeing Karl's condition he will call out "Healer!" and go to him making sure he is alive. Then, if there is no help nearby and Karl can't get up on his own, Sven will gently pick him up and carry him into the building where the others are hoping someone there can help.

Karl tries moving all his body parts before even reacting. Now sure he is fine, thohgh not understanding why, he waves a reassuring hand to Sven. "I'm fine, really, let's check on the others." The Monk/Druid isn't sure but he likes tha fact that he survived what a normal man would have perished from. And he has no armor. This has possibilities. I'll have to look more into it. He keeps his thoughts to himself on this account. "Good thing that bastard is dead, Sven. No offense, man." Karl seems really happy about that. He crushes the fragments of the blue crystal under his boot and spits on teh spot before continuing on with Sven.

Taking in the chaos about them when the threesome enter the throne room, Tolleen has to take a moment in order to process all she sees.

While attempting to decide her next action, a large ectoplasm-coated bear crawls out of the well just as a huge explosion takes place immediately outside, followed by Sven's cry of "Healer!"

"Assist Hrrd", she says to her two companions, "I'll get Sven and the others outside."

Not wasting time using the stairs to head back down, Tolleen races over to the open balcony, steps off, and bounds down the side of the building, stepping between balconies, windowsills, and broken flagpole on the way down [Slow Fall 20']. Reaching into her pack, she retrieves several vials of healing potions, not knowing how many will be needed, but assuming it will be proportional to the volume of the explosion.

Dropping to the ground adjacent to Sven and Karl, Tolleen produces four vials and pushes them off to Sven, knowing he will realize what they are. "That's all I've got", she tells him.

If Karl is not fully responsive, Tolleen will administer a couple potions to him while Sven drinks hiself. If Karl is able to consume the potions himself, Tolleen will head back up the same way she came down (Fast Movement 50', Climb +6) to save time as opposed to running up the stairs.

Sven takes the potion saying "Thanks..." Sven will give the vials to Karl one at a time. Sven already caste a CMW spell on himself and can caste two more on himself, if necessary, so he should not need any of the potions.

Once Karl seems ok, Sven will follow Tolleen into the building.

[ooc: I just realized that Tolleen gave Sven all of the vials, not just one, and none to Karl, so I adjusted this post a bit.]

From this height, Hrrd has a great view of the entire scene. That blast nearly shook him loose, but he managed to grab hold of a pillar and keep his balance.

He begins to put things together and sees that the Maiden may simply be ranting in place. Ungulian is dead as well, but still the ring is activated. He has never held much belief in the destruction of magical items, but this may be one of those times where it is necessary. He has seen the devastation caused by want of this ring and what it may have taken to get it to work, and what evil it has wrought in its short span of life already. No, it cannot continue to operate.

He sees below him the glowing gems on the surface of the ring. They seem to be the most vulnerable (and possibly powerful) parts of the ring. Perhaps if he were to drop from his perch and try to put all of his strength and weight behind the awesome power of Mjolnir, he might be able to damage the portal.

He thinks to himself, "I am as Heimdall. Surely as he is set to protect the Bifrost Bridge against the giants attacking Asgard, so surely am I to stop the powers of Hel from taking Midgard."

He quickly says FIGHT ON BRAVOUS and drops the spell.

Moments before the undead Black Wing is about to crunch on his throat an idea occurs to him. He calls upon the power of his cloak and turns into a falcon, quickly flying away from the dragon and landing some distance away from the dragon. He thinks to himself, "Wizards are not supposed to fight a dragon one on one, but so far it isn't going too bad. Hell I'm still alive. I need to stick to what I am good at." After landing, he will return to his elf form and go into casting. At the completion of the spell, the image of a horse rides towards Erdath and instead of running him over, it seems to be absorbed by him. (He cast Mustang Speed: double movement rate and +4 dodge bonus to AC). He then pulls his trusty wand from its secure place on his belt and lets a bolt of lightning streak towards Black Wing.

He looks around for the Wellstone or anything else that he can smash to somehow break Toska Rusa's wile magic. If nothing else, he will try to break the circle on the floor using his blade.
